John Proctor: “God in paradise, what is John Proctor, what is John Proctor”. John is a male of strong moral beliefs any method he or she look at him, concerned only for the security of his household and personal well-being. He cares of absolutely nothing for the beliefs of any of the other individuals in the town and what his supervisor which is the Reverend, believes either. After attempting to avoid involvement in the witch trials he is later on prosecuted for witchery and sentenced to hang. John attempts to avoid any participation in the Salem witch trials.
His reason for doing so is to secure his image because he is afraid he will be devoted of adultery with Abigail Williams. Following these occasions he trys to save everybody’s lives by admitting to this horrible offense infidelity and ends up losing the trial in addition to his life. He did have a chance to live however rather of signing away his name and his soul to keep his life, he wished to pass away honorably with his good friends not without a name, a soul, and with guilt. “John Proctors choice to pass away is reasonable and believable”.
Reverend Parris, the Salem minister and Proctors instant manager, which states” there is either obedience or the church will burn like hell is burning.” “The church in theocratic Salem equals with the state and the neighborhood and will certainly fall apart if unquestioning obedience falters in the least.” Proctor, on the other hand, “has concerned regard his self as a king of scams,” as long as he stays obedient to an authority which he can not appreciate.
Simply put he believes that the can not be his true self when he has to abide by lies and not by his morals. He thinks there is to much reference of hell in God’s church and about the risks to the community to implicit in all this talk of witch craft. He is captured in a web of ethical predicaments including not just his own fate but that of his better half, his friends, and the whole Salem neighborhood. “John Proctor is the person who needs to choose weather condition or not he will assert himself versus an overbearing authoritarian federal government. # 8221; “His loyalty to his own beliefs– which do not include “golden candlesticks” for pulpits or “hellfire” sermons– are contradicted by Reverend Parris, so he resists the ruling authority and retreats to his farm.” But so far his disobedience against the church actually includes none however is own welfare, and that in no profound method. Although all this goes on in the end the community of Salem rests on his choice on weather condition to lie dishonorably or die honorably. John Proctor is looked upon as a reputable farmer, and as an individualist, he may be but he is still appreciated.
John does not respect the church or theocracy specifically when a reverend so corrupt is the remarkable. John Proctor is setup as the individual who is revolting type the constraints of excessive authority. He does not like “the smell of this authority.” Many men were believed to be lured by the Devil to do his bidding and they were thought of to be the enemy. “In Salem, the enemy is at least partly represented by Proctor, who is acting as an individual and is breaking away from the established authority. # 8221; As such, he is a hazard to the community, and consequently will be considered as being aligned with the Devil. The one looked upon as a threat, ultimately, the central figure of drama, but still viewed as a Christian is seen to be John Proctor. That is why he requires to reveal the people of Salem that he actually does not have an alliance with the devil and that he will pass away not as the opponent however as a pal. He should reveal them he is and was devoted to the society prior to it started to end up being a crises and corrupt. Hence showing he will not live with embarassment, he will live without it or pass away.
He does not wish to be remembered like that, he wishes to be remembered and considered as “John Proctor” nothing more. John Proctor has two options, to devote himself to one side or the other. The two choices were to either cope with lies, guilt, no name, and no soul or die for his good friends and in an honorable and justifiable method. As he his handed the blank paper and pen to sign away his life he takes a look at his pals deals with and reads their expressions like a book and some how he reads that why provide your self away to the devil as a lie when you can die for what you think in and with the people you love.
He needs to choose …, his choice was to pass away which was a choice to commit him self to his pals and pass away honorable, and as an honest man. He mentions that “I have 3 children– how may I teach them to stroll like men in the world, and I sold my good friends?” He says if he is dishonorable to his buddies then this would be stuck on his back together with his family’s, so if he was to select to lie his kids would not look up to their own daddy as a good example and he would not be remembered as a pal but as a foe.
They would think of him as a liar and not faithful to his friends and family. So this is why he chooses to pass away so he leaves this world with him being remembered as respectable not unethical not just to his household but to his pals. “As a result of his involvement, John finds himself accused at being a witch. After being tried and condemned to death, John declines to confess and “give them the lie they desire” because of his pride and stubbornness. # 8221; John even though he doesn’t wish to crave such a pathetic factor, he is confronted with the challenge of being entirely versus the other condemned witches, and by his confession, ending up being instrumental for the deaths of his friends. And the other path open for him is to align himself entirely with the imprisoned witches. There is finally nothing left for John to do however dispute on weather condition he should live or pass away. His choice was to die which was an option and effort to commit himself to his good friends and die a respectable and develops male which makes his death real and reasonable. Revieved a 90% on this.
