Atticus- “The something that does not abide by majority guideline is a person’s conscience.” He is a worthy character in search of justice. Links- Piggy, comparable in law and smarts, Simon- Conscience uninfluenced by society. Ralph- Great under pressure. Ralph- “What was the reasonable thing to do? There was no Piggy to talk sense. There was no solemn assembly for debate nor dignity of the conch.” Leader, although not smart, but has excellent objectives and even with the loss of civility doesn’t forget objectives. Connections- Romeo and Atticus, civil in savagery. Bob Ewell- Society’s evil. It was Miss Stephanie’s pleasure to tell us: [Miss Stephanie describes Bob Ewell’s actions and words] ‘today Mr. Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the post workplace corner, spat in his face, and told him he ‘d get him if it took the rest of his life.’ [Miss Stephanie repeats Atticus’ reaction] I want Bob Ewell would not chew tobacco,’ was all Atticus stated about it. [Scout as storyteller explains Miss Stephanie’s next description] According to Miss Stephanie Crawford, however, Atticus was leaving the post office when Mr. Ewell approached him, cursed him, spat on him, and threatened to kill him.

Miss Stephanie (who, by the time she had actually informed it two times existed and had actually seen it all– going by from the Jitney Jungle, she was)– Miss Stephanie said ‘Atticus didn’t bat an eye, just secured his handkerchief and cleaned his face and stood there and let Mr. Ewell call him names wild horses could not bring her to repeat. Mr. Ewell was a veteran of an unknown war; that plus Atticus’s serene response probably triggered him to inquire, [Miss Stephanie describes Bob Ewell’s remarks and Atticus’ reply] ‘Too proud to combat, you nigger-lovin’ bastard? Miss Stephanie said. Atticus stated, ‘No, too old,’ put his hands in his pockets and walked on …” Connections- Jack- Savage and repulsive. Tybalt- Accusing. Romeo- Loving of Juliet, believes feud is unimportant. Links- Ralph, strive towards goal. Atticus/ Ralph- Civility in savagery. Jack- Evil on island. Is savage and looses all civility imposed by society. Looses sight of objectives. Links- Bob Ewell, Evil and savage.
