Of Mice and Men – George and Lennie

Of Mice and Guys– George and Lennie

This essay is about the relationship between George and Lennie in John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Male.” The unique presents a male-centered world, where females do not have a voice; it is a valid microcosm of 1937’s America.” The book was written around the time the Great Depression took place. It was really hard to get a task throughout that time. Male had to take a trip by themselves to find work for themselves. These men were referred to as itinerant works.

They had no set address, they belonged no place and they typically had no business– “Guys like us, that work on cattle ranches, are the loneliest guys I the world. In this unique, the solitude makes the characters change the method they behave. “A person goes mad if he got nobody to speak with.” The two protagonists, George Milton and Lennie Smalls, travel together to discover work; when they do, they need to leave because of an ‘event’ caused by Lennie. George is the leader and the daddy figure whereas Lennie is the well-built and child-like character. The novel reveals the daring journey these characters travel in trying to discover work and not be ‘run out’ and to accomplish their dreams.

Generally George is always looking out and caring for Lennie– “I got you to look after me, however you got me to look after you.” If Lennie gets into difficulty, George knows what to do to get him out of it– “if you jus’ occur to get in trouble like you constantly done in the past, I desire you to come right here an’ conceal in the brush.” Unfortunately for Lennie; his childish nature gets him into enough trouble to end his journey. He is ‘blindly dedicated’ to George, soft things, a farm house and rabbits. Lennie requires George in order for him to make it through.

George is his role model– “Lennie, who had been viewing, mimicked George exactly.” He depends on George to provide him guidelines, food, work and shelter. George, the brains and the master, looks after Lennie. To him, Lennie can be a concern that ultimately gets too heavy for him to bring. He likes and cares for Lennie very much. Since of the method Lennie is, he has been given rigorous instructions about the way he should act at the new ranch to keep him out of problem: “if you jus happen to get in trouble like you always done previously, I desire you to come right here an’ conceal the brush. This quote proves that George is in command.

He is the master and Lennie is the fan; he must do whatever he is told to do or else “George will give him hell” and speak about how his life would be better without Lennie. For reason of George and Lennie not being equivalent, George can sometimes take advantage of Lennie. There is much compassion and affection in their relationship; they have an excellent friendship which results in fantastic trust. Lennie is the physical power and the strength whilst George is the smart guy– together they’re one person.

Although them having each other as company might deal with their loneliness, Lennie mentally allurements George whenever George ‘offers him hell’– Well, I could. I might go off, in the hills there. Some place I ‘d discover a cave.” With the hope they give each other and the repetition of their dream, the dream appears possible nevertheless– “even the best laid strategies of mice and men go often incorrect and leave nothing but sorrow and pain.” Their dream is will not come true. The relationship makes them proud– “But not us George.” Although they might have a favorable, distinct relationship, their relationship is predestined to stop working.

They are really opposite and unequal in brains and strength. In conclusion, this novel programs that these 2 characters had great love and care for each other. Although George ended Lennie’s life by shooting might have not sounded favorable, it was the right thing to do. He did it out of love for his sibling. Lennie hadn’t understood what he had done and if he had been caught he would’ve been badly tormented and eliminated in a painful method. The way George shot him showed how much he desired Lennie to be delighted. They were bros, cousins and buddies. Their actions showed this and how their relationship worked despite the fact that they were extremely opposite.
