In it is discussed three symbols that are utilized in the book.|In the book Moby Cock, Herman Melville utilizes a great deal of signs that show through his characters. Among the big characters in the book was Captain Ahab. Ahab was an apparent sign of evil. This character demonstrated a personality of somebody who looks for revenge and revenge, two things bunched together with evil. Another sign in this book was Starbuck, Ahab’s very first mate.
He consistently shows logic and reason throughout the story. The last sign that will be discussed is the symbol that the great white whale, Moby Penis, represents. Moby Penis represents the reverse of Ahab, which is excellent. Moby Cock is attempting to escape throughout the story, and does not ever act hostile till he gets pressed too far. These are the 3 significant signs in this novel. Captain Ahab is not only one of the primary characters in the story but is likewise one of the primary signs that Melville utilizes in this book. Throughout the story, Ahab dedicates all his time and energy to chasing after the white whale.
Nevertheless, Ahab’s crew does not recognize that he is chasing after the whale for revenge till later in the story. Ahab is likewise stubborn and impolite to anyone that tries to make him see factor. It is shown in his actions and in his words that he lives for revenge on the white whale. Captain Ahab can be no other symbol but evil. Starbuck, Ahab’s very first mate, is another huge symbol used in this story. From the time they set sail to go whaling, Starbuck is ever careful of Ahab. When Ahab does something he believes is incorrect, Starbuck attempts to get him to factor and do the logical thing.
Towards the end of the story, Ahab is going after the white whale and Starbuck tries to get him to do the rational thing. Starbuck reveals Ahab his incorrect doings and attempts to get him to change, although he doesn’t. Starbuck is 2 symbols, reasoning and factor, built into one. The last symbol in this novel is Moby Penis, the white whale. Although Moby Cock is a whale and for that reason can not speak, his behavior is revealed through his actions. Throughout the story, Moby Penis is continuously ranging from Captain Ahab and his crew. Ahab is attempting to select a battle, however Moby Dick does not want that so he runs away.
Only when he feels cornered does he reverse and combat Ahab to conserve his own life. Moby Penis is a big sign of good and peace in this book. The three signs in this unique all reveal that it takes a lot of thinking to compose an unique as great as this one. Great is a symbol that everyone can connect to. All Moby Cock wished to do was get away, to not remain in or cause any sort of difficulty. Only when pushed to the verge of his anger did he turn to lastly fight Captain Ahab. Evil is a sign of bad in this world. Ahab shows his evil through his actions.
He persists, relentless, and desires absolutely nothing however revenge. Eventually his wicked ways cause his own, paradoxical death. Reasoning and reason is something all of us attempt to use in our daily lives. Starbuck never speaks anything but reasoning and factor throughout this book. His only ideas are for the security of the ship, team, and even Captain Ahab. Regrettably, regardless of his repeated efforts to make Ahab see factor, he passes away in the end.
