Critique of Romeo and Juliet the Movie

Review of Romeo and Juliet the Film

Review of Romeo and Juliet the Movie There have been many romantic movies made in the past along with now in the present, from Wuthering Heights to Pretty Female. But, among the most romantic of all movies is the story of Romeo and Juliet. It is safe to state that many people recognize with this story. A couple so figured out to be together, wound up unfortunately in the arms of one another because of their feuding households. Today, a new director attempts to recreate this Shakespearean story by including a little of his on twists to it.

Using the very same dialogue as Shakespeare, this director sets the story in modern times. Romeo and Juliet, the film, gives audience in the twentieth century a taste of a new and mystical flavor to this popular romance. The setting of Romeo and Juliet, as anticipated, was absolutely various from other settings in the past. This setting, however, was not always embeded in way of how individuals today would live. The story was set more fantasy-like. Since of the setting, the deaths of individuals in this film did not appear as moving regarding the old motion pictures.

For some factor, the setting of Mercutio’s death disrupted this apparently poetic scene. A broken down phase on a sandy beach does not appear to fit well together. The setting appeared pretty artificial. Also, the scene when one of the Montagues died at the gas station did not appear as dismal as would be if any other individual was to pass away. This scene was the opening one so, the audience might have been distracted by the dialogue and for that reason, not focusing on the death to much.

In the start of the movie, it was tough to adapt to the dialogue with the atmosphere. The discussion was method on the other side of the timeline compared to the setting. Some of the audience was even chuckling. Perhaps that was why it was so hard to follow the movie with all those interruptions. What was rather impressive about this movie was how the director included today’s issues and events with the old Shakespearean dialogue. For example, swords were utilized in the olden days. Now, the proper weapon would be weapons.

The director also included what a teenager, today, would do like taking drugs, playing pool, and going to parties. In general, the director must have wanted the audience to see this movie as a completely new and various one compared to the old ones. It is difficult not to make contrasts, however if one treats this contemporary Romeo and Juliet as a completely separate film, then perhaps one would appreciate it more for its creativity. If people were to watch this film like any routine motion picture and not think of it as the initial Shakespeare story, then maybe the watchers would enjoy it more.
