MIND OF GREAT COMPANIES: ORGANIZATIONAL VISION Past and present stages of development of the organization The difference between the past and present in terms of the stages of development has mainly got to do with the application of approach, where by the company used to use the either/or approach. Today, the dominant approach used towards the development of the organization is that of both/and approach. When competition abounds for a particular industry such as Marriott currently faces, research has showed that one of the best ways to get over the competition is to combine a series of methods and approaches that can guarantee that the weaknesses of other approaches are overshadowed (Waddock, 2009).

This is exactly what the present development of the organization has been about.How the company has developedWriting on “What is on the minds of great companies?” Blanchard (2007) noted that “many companies develop a corporate culture over time, but if it wasnt actively sculpted with the companys long term vision in mind, it may not reflect the companys ultimate mission” (p. 11). What this means is that the organization’s vision is very key to judging the company’s development rate.

In this, it would be said that Marriott has developed positively because the company has been able to live within its goal and vision of making customer satisfaction a central focus of their service, where the turnover received in terms of customer patronage has confirmed such an expanded form of customer satisfaction. Reflection of companys stage of development in its vision and value statements Due to the fact that customers generally patronage the services of a company of which they are pleased with their service, it can be said that the company’s stage of development is reflected in its vision and value statement because the customer has had a long standing vision of using customer satisfaction as a competitive advantage.
