My unforgettable accident has taught me that to get through all kinds of hardships in life and to become a mature citizen the factors which play a crucial role are a true human relationship, friendship, and life experiences. Whenever I think about this experience, I get very emotional and sometimes burst into tears. It was April 30th, 2010, it is that time of year when everyone is excited and make summer plans for long holidays lying ahead. But for me, something else was planned by destiny. For me, this day is the most memorable yet painful day of my entire life.

On that day, I had a baseball game in the afternoon. The weather was strange. It was a bright sunny day yet excessively windy. I was not sure of catching a fly ball well in this weird climatic condition. During warm-ups, baseball coach gave me a fly ball and I thought that I would able to catch that ball with my gloves. But before I realize what had happened to me, I found that I was bleeding unceasingly. Then I realized that four of my bloody teeth were in my hand. I could also feel that a couple of teeth were hanging by my braces inside the mouth.

I could not believe that this accident actually has happened to me. Suddenly, many thoughts came in my mind including tomorrow’s SAT test, finals, graduation, family, friends, pain, teeth, and many other things. In fact, I truly felt that everything was over, and I cried loudly. I was not ready to accept the truth. I did not understand why I had to be punished so badly. As I moved into the training center, everyone was staring with a sense of sympathy. I was crying like a small kid in front of my friends who were encouraging me.

I was terrified when I realized that my parents were staying thousands of miles away from my place. My advisor and baseball coach took me to the hospital. We could not find an oral surgeon anywhere in New Hampshire and the doctor in Plymouth memorial hospital tried to make phone calls for hours. I was bleeding for almost 11 hours until I met an oral surgeon in Mass General hospital in Boston. I was exhausted, yet was happy to get operated. When I returned to school, I understood that eating food would be a problem.

The days were miserable. I always had a fever and pain. I was not able to sleep well and was far behind of schoolwork. Additionally, I had to go to the emergency room 4 times after the operation because teeth kept falling apart. At some point, I was absolutely hopeless and lonely to go through such hardships. Nonetheless, I was able to overcome a painful moment due to great help from many people especially my advisor Hanley, coach KJ, my math teacher, my friends and the special friend JIwoong.

During operation, my advisor, Hanley and my baseball coach KJ stayed all night with me in the Hospital to support me. Their love and care gave me a sense of hope and energy to get stronger mentally and to get through such a long and painful night. My friend, Jiwoong called my parents to tell them about the accident but also convinced them that I was fine and operated by a great doctor. He truly showed me how a great friend should look after each other when one is in a difficult situation. I will never forget him as a friend and how he helped me out in all possible ways.

Numerous friends sent me cards to wish luck and even visited to encourage and support me. Subsequently, they taught me a life lesson that no matter who I become or what I do, friendship stays forever. Furthermore, kitchen staff made special smooth liquid food that I could at least eat. All the teachers understood my situation and did not pressurize. Their consideration and effort reminded me of how this world is still full of kindness. This helped me to complete my schoolwork and achieve success in finals.

As a result of this accident, my teeth are still in not good shape and medical treatment is required for at least a couple more years. Nevertheless, this accident was sincerely the most valuable life experience that I had. This incident has taught me the value of a human relationship, and to remain grateful forever towards such special people who supported me physically and mentally. From this experience, I truly became more mature. I am now confident that I shall able to handle all sorts of hardships in the future very effectively.

At last, words cannot sincerely express my feelings and emotions. However, in my mind, I thank each one of them who showered love and care; and shall appreciate them until my last breath.
